Meet the Team

Shannon Littlejohn Burnes

Hello there!

I was born and raised a country girl, but ended up settling in Toronto’s High Park area with my husband and two kiddos who keep me on my toes!

I’ve always been active and I’m raising active kids too! My obsessions include my peloton, strength training with friends, and swearing by pilates to keep my low back feeling good. I’m an extrovert who thrives on connection and value my relationships with friends and family.

I also love to create #hiphopphysio on my Instagram!

As a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Physiotherapy (FCAMPT),  I am a certified Gunn-IMS (dry needling) practitioner and have specialized training in Acupuncture. This extensive training and unique skillset allows me to pull from various modalities during the time we are working together.

My Physiotherapy specialities include treating those with:

  • Acute and chronic neck and back pain

  • Athletes with sports injuries at all levels

  • Post-op rehabilitation for orthopaedic surgeries

Giving back to the Physiotherapy profession is something I take pride in, through mentoring Physiotherapists and teaching within the Orthopaedic Division of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association. Teaching always helps to keep my skills sharp and undoubtedly makes me a better clinician.

I really enjoy working with an active population who’s engaged in their treatment. I look forward to helping return you to whatever your favourite sport or activity may be!

Hi! I am a physiotherapist with a strong emphasis on empowering every client, desk worker, weekend warrior, or elite athlete to achieve their physical activity goals.

I come from a background of strength and conditioning and have worked with athletes in the NHL, AAU circuit, OJHL, Ultimate Canada, and Volleyball Canada, amongst others.

My Physiotherapy specialities include treating those with:

  • Sports injuries - return to sport specialist

  • Shoulder injuries

  • Tendinopathies (ie. achilles, supraspinatous, patellar, tennis elbow)

  • Acute and chronic neck and low back pain

Through my training and unique skillset, I am able to collaborate with each client to ensure they understand the why of what’s happening, the how of combating it, and the way in which physiotherapy will address their goal. I am a firm believer of exercise as medicine and will work with every client to ensure that each exercise is personalized, achievable within their workspace or time constraints, and with as much or little equipment as is available.

Certifications: Graston Technique M1, Advanced Integrated Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy Program: Level 2 Lower & Upper, Acupuncture & Dry Needling, Advanced Movement Therapist: Level 1.

Outside of work I enjoy biking, photography, and cafe-hopping across the city.

Hello all! I am a Registered Physiotherapist, Clinical Pilates instructor, and a Mama to a vibrant and cheeky toddler.

I am finally back on Canadian soil after living in Amsterdam and most recently, London England.

While in Holland, I discovered my true passion for Pilates and completed my Comprehensive Pilates Teacher Training. With this knowledge I was able to integrate my two professions seamlessly.

My Physiotherapy approach is multifaceted, combining manual therapy, Clinical Pilates, exercise prescription, education, and modalities such as acupuncture/dry needling to provide valuable, evidenced-based therapy. I believe in one-to-one patient care with a focus on short and long term functional goals, in order to help you regain an active and healthy lifestyle.

I absolutely love working with the pre- and post-natal population as Pilates helped me tremendously during pregnancy and after the birth of my daughter!

My Physiotherapy and Clinical Pilates specialties include working with:

  • Pre- and post-natal women

  • Sports injuries

  • Post-op rehab for orthopedic surgeries

  • Acute and chronic neck and low back injuries

Some of my Certifications include: Level 3 Advanced Orthopaedic Manual and Manipulative therapy, Comprehensive Pilates Teacher Training (Mat, Reformer, Cadillac, Ladder barrel, Wunda chair, Springboard), Contemporary Medical Acupuncture for Health Professionals (McMaster), JEMS Movement (Analysis, Rehabilitation and Training).

My passions outside the clinic include traveling, delicious food and wine, and spending quality time with my family.

Hello!

It’s great to meet you- I’m excited to be the newest edition to the Resilience team! I come with over 20 years of experience in both Canada and Australia in clinical practice, teaching, research, and leadership roles in physiotherapy. While I’m so happy to be back in Toronto, I still have very strong connections with my friends, family and colleagues down under!

I am a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Physiotherapy (FCAMPT) as well as a Musculoskeletal Specialist Physiotherapist awarded by the Australian College of Physiotherapy in 2015. I am the immediate past Chair of Orthopaedic Division of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association and a past chair of Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy Australia. I’m an examiner, complex case study marker and case study advisor for the Australian College of Physiotherapy, an Adjunct Clinical Professor at McMaster and I am involved in teaching at the University of Toronto. My published research is in whiplash associated disorders and pain sensitivity measures, and I continue to bring the latest evidence into my clinical practice as best I can.

I’m passionate about making sense of people’s unique circumstances that led them to physiotherapy and using manual therapy, movement and exercise to bring them towards recovery and better health.

My main areas of focus in physiotherapy are in:

  • Acute and chronic neck pain and low back pain

  • Whiplash associated disorders and concussion

  • Headache and dizziness

  • Nerve pain/Radiculopathy.

I look forward to meeting you and working with you to achieve your goals.

Hi, I’m a Registered Physiotherapist trained in Clinical Pilates.

I’m originally from Vancouver but moved to Toronto again to pursue a Master of Public Health from the University of Toronto (where I also completed my physio degree). I have a background in dance and my first exposure to physio was during my pre-professional dancing days.

Through my experiences as a patient, I learned the importance of listening and working closely with the person to achieve their goals. Additionally, I also realized the value in treating the whole person vs. the injuries or conditions someone may have and that injuries can impact people in many ways. I like to really emphasize the power that one has in their own rehab journey.

I treat using a variety of techniques including clinical pilates and exercise, education and manual therapy. I treat everyone but have a special interest in dancers/performing artists and oncology patients. I hope to share my knowledge with others while supporting their individual goals.

Outside of the clinic, but in the realm of rehab sciences, I have an interest in research and have published papers surrounding disability and physiotherapy education and spinal cord injuries and sport.

When I’m not in the clinic I still love to dance. I grew up training solely in ballet then moved onto contemporary, hip hop and more—to me it’s a perfect combination of physical activity, creativity and musicality. Dancing is one of the only ways I’ve found so far that consistently allows me to solely focus on the present. I have also had the opportunity to choreograph and teach dance. Besides dance, I like to travel (I just came back from 4 months of travelling in New Zealand/Australia), hike, try new food and spend time with family and friends.

Courses:

  • Trained in STOTT Pilates Rehab (level 1 and 2 mat and reformer)

  • Level 2 upper manual therapy certification (Advanced Integrated Musculoskeletal program)

  • PINC & STEEL International Intro to Oncology Rehab

Hi! I'm the Virtual Assistant to Resilience Physiotherapy.

I'm originally from Ontario, and my family and I moved to Nova Scotia in 2021.

When I'm not working my virtual assistant jobs, I'm playing with and caring for my son and daughter. My husband and I love spending our days outside with our kids, either exploring our forest, running around our yard or heading to the beach. My family thrives when we're outside.
